Hi, my name is Li Jing. I come from a rural part of China, about 2 hours drive from Shenyang, in a little town called Benxi. Our family are country folks and our main occupation is farming. I am the eldest of 3 children. My sister is 5 years younger while my brother is 9 years my junior. Both are still studying and I decided when I was 17 that I had to start working to supplement my family income.
Like many country folks in China, we came out from our village to look for a better life. Life can be tough in the country side. Other than farming, there's not much you can do and jobs are difficult to find. I tried working in Shenyang as a waitress in a small restaurant and then as a boutique sales girl. The pay was a paltry 800RMB and after paying for lodging (which you share with a few others), there's not much left to save.
My yearning to start my own little business gave me the motivation to move out of my comfort zone to see the "real world". Through that desire, I've gain vast experiences which I will treasure for the rest of my life.
I hope you enjoy this blog as I continue to post here for your reading pleasure and my personal records. I have decided to write to show readers that as much as China has grown and prospered, life for its citizens is not all a bed of roses, especially for the less well educated.
Sometimes it can be really tough and many times, I almost gave up and wanted to pack my bags and leave. However, my destiny beckons and I shall continue... Enjoy and have fun reading!
